How to log Apple Pay payments automatically in Boop

Set it up once and never type an Apple Pay expense again. A one-time automation in Apple’s Shortcuts app hands every tap to Boop, which logs the amount, the shop and the account on its own, with no prompts and no opening the app. It works with any card in Apple Wallet, from a GCash card to your BPI or BDO cards.

   Choose the account Apple Pay taps go to

   In Boop, open the account most of your taps charge, for example your GCash wallet, and switch on Set up Apple Pay auto-log.

   Any tap Boop can’t match to an account is filed there on its own, so there’s nothing to answer later.

   Or go to Settings → Apple Pay → Set up automatic logging and tap the account.

   Create the automation in Shortcuts

   1. Open the Automation tab, tap +, then choose Wallet.
   2. Under When I tap, choose one card, or every card if they all charge the same account.
   3. Choose Run Immediately, turn Notify When Run off, and tap Next.

   No Wallet option? iOS hides it until Apple Wallet has a payment card. On older versions of iOS it’s called Transaction.

   Add Boop’s Auto-Log Payment action

   1. Tap Create New Shortcut.
   2. Search for Auto-Log Payment and tap it.

   Pick Auto-Log Payment, not Log Expense. Log Expense is meant for Siri and asks questions while you pay. The guide inside Boop has a button that copies the action’s name so you can paste it into the search.

   Set the account

   In the action, tap Account and pick the Boop account this card charges.

   Recommended: one automation per card, each with its Account set, so there’s no guessing. Simpler: leave Account empty and use one automation for every card; those taps go to the account from step 1.

   Connect Amount, Merchant and Card or Pass

   Tap Show More in the action. Then, for Amount, Merchant and Card or Pass:

   1. Tap the field and choose Shortcut Input.
   2. Tap the blue token again and pick the field’s own name. For Card or Pass, pick Card or Pass.
   3. When all three show their own names, tap the checkmark.

   Card or Pass is where this usually goes wrong: if its token still reads Shortcut Input, Merchant or Name, the shop’s name gets sent as the card.

   Pay with Apple Pay and it logs itself

   From now on, each tap shows up in Boop with its amount and shop, with no prompts and no opening the app.

   New taps land in Uncategorized; give them a category whenever you like. Want proof it’s working? Open the account’s Apple Pay row: Last tap logged tells you when the last one came in.

   Good to know

   • One automation per card

     Cards that charge different accounts? Make one automation per card, each with its own Account set.

   • Taps land in Uncategorized

     Sort them into categories later. Once you’ve filed a shop, Boop remembers where it goes.

   • Open the guide again any time

     In Boop, go to Settings → Apple Pay → Set up automatic logging, or tap an account’s Apple Pay row and choose Step-by-step walkthrough.
